Imperfect Food

I’m SO excited to share with you information about a new produce/food/beverage delivery service. But first, did you know that 40% of all food produced in the United States goes uneaten? And, 20 billion pounds of produce goes unsold every year. Why? There are several reasons including the appearance of the products, such as if there are blemishes or a piece of produce that is oddly shaped… in other words, IMPERFECT.

Other reasons why products are trashed include over surplus, change of packaging or even short coded dates, which is another way of saying not enough time left on the “sale by date” that stores require. These products are deeply discounted.

Imperfect Foods has saved 86 million pounds of food while supporting 943 farmers who can now make a better living by selling their imperfect products to people like me. But, it’s not just produce, I’ve gotten eggs, olive oil, quinoa, rice, salmon and so much more at a huge discount. The best part, is that these items are 30% cheaper than if I bought them at a grocery store.

Imperfect Foods’ mission is to better the environment and local communities, to create a more effective food system, to fight food waste, to provide economic opportunities for farmers, growers and purveyors. They are driving access to perfectly good food that in the past has been wasted.
I like the way you can customize your box each week or skip a week. There are no long term contracts. You order week by week, all for a flat rate delivery rate of $4.99 straight to your door. What I like is they pick up your last delivery empty box and ice package and it’s reused or repurposed. One of my pet peeves with many food delivery services is that the packaging is often excessive and usually not recyclable. Not these guys!
Imperfect Foods deliver, from local sources, to over 30 cities and recently they have added chicken and fish options.

Check them out using MY LINK and you and I both get $10 off our next order. Once you sign up, you can share the your link with your friends and receive the same discount. Smart marketing.

Above is a picture of the box I received this week. I paid $22.82 for everything you see. The potatoes are organic, but you can see how they are not shaped perfectly, the avocados are not smooth and perfectly green. The brussel sprouts are unusually large. The quinoa doesn’t have the perfect ratio of three colors. The eggs, rice and coffee were part of an over surplus.  All this food would have gone to waste.

Imperfect Foods reminds me that with each box I buy, I save approximately 14 lbs of food, 560 gallons of water and 47.74 lbs of CO2 emissions. Now that’s something to feel good about!

Help save the planet while saving money!  It’s a win-win.
